Julius Austin
"DIES - AUSTIN - At his home in Wakeman, O., Sunday, August 30th, 1908.
Julius AUSTIN was born in Stanwich, Fairfield Co., Conn. Aug 3rd, 1829. His early years were spent in Conn. & New York. At the age of 22, he was united in marriage to Agnes ROWLAND, June 20th 1852 at Williamsburg, N.Y. To this union 8 children were born, 4 of them dying at any early age.
The family came to Ohio in 1858, settling in Townsend, from which place he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was enrolled in Co. A 101 Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry & was afterward transferred to Co. F of the Veteran Reserve Corps, & served his country until June 28th 1865, when he was mustered out at Washington, D.C. After the war closed he came to Townsend, but stayed there only a short time, moving to Wakeman. He was one of the old pioneer citizens of Wakeman.
He was elected Justice of the Peace & served his patrons faithfully for 15 years, always rendering just decisions & always on the side of right. A man where honesty was beyond question, a kind & devoted husband & loving father. His wife preceded him to the life beyond Nov 4th 1898. He leaves to mourn his death 4 children, 2 sons & 2 daughters.
The deceased was a member of Wilson Todd Post No. 559 G.A.R., also of Gibson Lodge No 301 F. & A . M. The funeral was attended from the M.E. Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. J.H. Elliott officiating & body entered in the Wakeman Township Cemetery."

Note: Julius & Agnes ROWLAND AUSTIN lived on Pleasant St in Wakeman, Huron, OH. The CANFIELD family later bought the property & donated it to the Wakeman Public Library.
